Our Product

Perennial peanuts are a high quality forage plant which should not be confused with their annual cousin, the common peanut grown for nut production. It is a warm season or tropical legume native to South America and was brought to Florida from Brazil in 1936. Its uses include hay, silage, grazing and ornamentals. Perennial peanuts are produced mainly in Florida and Southern Georgia.

Crude protein within perennial peanuts can range from 13 to 18%, depending on stemminess and stage of maturity, with an amino acid and mineral composition comparable to alfalfa. Digestibility for alfalfa and perennial peanut is also quite similar, ranging from 55-65%. When feed, it does not cause bloating like most other legumes, therefore it doesn’t have to be “blended down.” Palatability studies have shown that most livestock prefer the taste of perennial peanuts over alfalfa. As a result, it is frequently referred to as “the ice cream of hays”.

Harvest occurs annually from June until October where hay is cut and gathered in timely fashion. After harvest, our hay is stored in an enclosed barn that protects quality and maintains freshness.

We offer our product in 55 lb. bales which can be shipped to you in various delivery increments.
